We’re All About The Black List 2025, Okay?

SCREENMANCER ICYMI NEWS: Yesterday the 2025 top 74 un-produced screenplays were announced by The Black List as The Black List 2025. Why they couldn’t get to 75 should be a bit some comedian picks up. But 74 it is. What is The Black List? Funny you should ask because they have an entire promo asking that very question.

Here’s Meryl Streep pretending she can’t remember what it’s called (said with a smile), plus other random news hits name-checking the site. And after this, you’ll know about The Black List too. As in: for listing screenplays. [Editor’s note: even though scrnmncr did this in 1997 first at our launch in Santa Monica, Calif., no hard feelings?]

So why are we a day late to the party? Not because we thought of this idea first, years ago (proof), no.

Tsk, tsk, for even thinking getting recognized for this 28 years ago would have meant something?

Blame David Zaslav, Warners Bros Discovery, Netflix, Skydance, Paramount, the fracas, the lowball share price from David Ellison now going north of $32?

Okay, nevermind, no excuses (as Hollywood burns down as we know it in spirit, just kidding)… here’s your cheatsheet for what movies should be made right now.

And, not to complain, but? How come the main ones have agents attached and managers? Asking for a friend?

Forget about that last paragraph, now that they quoted Tom Stoppard, all is well (but not so in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead,” right). Now that they know who that playwright is, their list must be aces. If you didn’t make the list this year (or ever), don’t worry. Stoppard’s 1966 masterpiece might not have made their list either, however.

Luckily absurdist Shakespeare-inspired rip-offs are still king in some corners of the storytelling world.
