In 1621, the first Thanksgiving was held in the Plymouth colonies with the Wampanoag tribe, and a lot has changed since the 32nd US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the holiday into legal status in 1941. Remarkably President Thomas Jefferson had snubbed this event in 1801, so not everyone is a fan. Hulu’s HAPPIEST SEASON comes out the day before Thanksgiving, and while it is set in the Christmas season, its release date of Nov. 25 will make it a talking point for this turkey-themed holiday as Kristen Stewart is the plus-one brought home to meet the parents of her intended.
Director Clea Duvall who directs, and co-writes with Mary Holland, puts Stewart in a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ bind. But the burden is on love interest Mackenzie Davis, who didn’t tell. Dan Levy of “Schitt’s Creek” steps into stage manage the fallout of this one huge missing detail, as they all inadvertently gaslight the straight-as-an-arrow parents. Had it been 1621, someone may have been burned at the stake; however, in 2020?
Mary Steenburgen and Victor Garber (’Tipper’ and ‘Ted’) are the lovely couple who are about the learn the truth about the otherness of their taller daughter, while Alison Brie plays the winner-sister not to be outdone by this surprisingly gay news.
KStew Stirs it Up
