HOLLYWOOD, CA: The first annual International Cinema Day will take place this Saturday, Sept. 12, in an effort to give back to the cinemas that have transformed the lives of movie-goers. International Cinema Day (ICD) is a global event designed to celebrate the universal love for film and memorable cinematic experiences at historic theatres. ICD will provide audience members with opportunities to support theatres and attend more than 20 special screenings happening worldwide.

More than 50 independent cinemas across the world, including Rio Cinema, London and the Quad Cinema, New York are participating. They are offering limited screenings, exclusive merchandise, and new ways for cinephiles to show their support. View the list of participating cinemas on the link below.

International Cinema Day patrons will have access to exclusive content, short films, articles, raffled artwork donated by renowned filmmakers such as David Lynch and other industry leaders. All proceeds will be donated directly to participating cinemas.

“Out of a global pandemic comes change and unity; we saw firsthand how many cinemas around the world were struggling with their doors closed,” says Dallas Jay Hunter, founder of ICD. “International Cinema Day is a spark of hope to unite people through art as a universal language, to come together and recall the importance of these places that have truly inspired something within all of us.”

“Long before the pandemic, our cinemas have been waiting for us to remember their value. Now — more than ever — they need our continuous attention, support and attendance,” she says. “I am so passionate about my local cinema due to the expansive and worldly film programming that enhances my creative vision thus my quality of life.”

Cinema Day can be celebrated at home or at your local cinema. To show support, participants are asked to post their most memorable cinematic experience on social media using #internationalcinemaday2020, tag @internationalcinemaday, and challenge three friends to join in on the celebration.
