What jumped off the page for Matt Damon in THE LAST DUEL & red carpet footage

Read Time:2 Minute, 40 Second

by Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent

Ridley Scott is back in action again as helmer of THE LAST DUEL, and last night at the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater re-teamed stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck from GOOD WILL HUNTING walked the red carpet with Jodie Comer and Harriet Walter, to lift the curtain on this “based on actual events” period action thriller. The film opens from 20th Century Studios on Oct. 15 and features Adam Driver at his very best.

Adam Driver is so good in Duel and nearly every single project he has ever been cast in, even the Star Wars franchise, that it might be time to call him America’s Daniel Day-Lewis, with a chance to surpass this Irish legend depending on what projects Driver chooses during this peak time of his career in Hollywood.

Absent Driver and Ridley Scott did not walk the red carpet for this US opener.

Affleck and Damon, made famous as a Good Will Hunting Oscar-winning duo, co-wrote THE LAST DUEL with Nicole Holofcener. Director Ridley Scott delivers Adam Driver as the wedge in an epic fight to save Jodie Comer’s honor here in this sword and armor lance-rattler. The darkly romantic tale is adapted from the book by author Eric Jager. Renowned author and scholar Jager still teaches Old English, Middle English and Continental Medieval Literature, Classical Culture, and Literary Theory in the English Department at UCLA.

We have footage from the premiere, including a few obligatory shots of Ben Affleck’s other re-team with off-screen partner Jennifer Lopez.

Screenwriter/producer Holofcener (FRIENDS WITH MONEY) also made the night with producers Kevin J. Walsh and Jennifer Fox, as well as executive producers Kevin Halloran, Drew Vinton, and Madison Ainley.
