Yeah, we’re not Quibi with a billion and a half reasons to quit… Screenmancer was founded out of UCLA Film School in 1996 by two women, including Emeritus Robinson Rea, and continued for 25 years by Founder Quendrith Johnson. The concept originated on a kitchen table in Venice Beach, now Silicon Beach. Years before e-commerce hit it big, before all the current tech giants in entertainment. Once Netflix’s marketing guy Steve Swassey sent a message that the “f” wasn’t upper case in one of our early press releases that we were here too, lol. We just mentioned we had that idea in the 486 days. We went live online in 1997 at the (now gone) World Cafe in Santa Monica, California. Our first logo was rough.
Drawn by hand, admired by one of the founder’s then toddler sons, that is. He wore the oversized original logo t-shirt as an early tech adopter. (Now a senior engineer at one of the Big Four tech firms.)
And then we spent 10 years in the 2000’s getting our dot com back from squatters. That’s all history.
The original URL was www.screenmancer.com – and we paid the ransom finally. 😉
Here’s our first promo from Promo after all these years…
Created with promo.com The World’s #1 Marketing Video Maker
Anyway, it’s been a fun-filled 25-year joy ride. Onward to the next iteration of the interwebs…
Enjoy.
