Toronto, ON: Game Theory Films announced today that the award-winning feature documentary THE ART OF ADVENTURE from director Alison Reid (The Woman Who Loves Giraffes) will launch in select theatres across Canada beginning April 10th, 2026 in celebration of Earth Month.
The acclaimed film will screen for audiences in Vancouver (VIFF Centre), Victoria (The Vic, Cinecenta), Toronto, Edmonton with more screenings across Ontario, Alberta, Nova Scotia and Quebec. The film’s subjects acclaimed wildlife artist Robert Bateman and environmentalist Bristol Foster will be in attendance at select screenings alongside Reid.
The Art of Adventure (TAOA) is an inspiring and deeply human documentary about the extraordinary lifelong friendship between world renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman and fearless biologist Bristol Foster. Through their epic 1957 journey around the world – armed with a 16mm camera and an artist’s brush – the film opens a vivid window to a planet once wild and unscarred. At its heart, the film weaves nature and activism showing how two very different men fought to protect the natural world: one with art, the other through science. Now in their 90’s Robert and Bristol still find sanctuary in nature.
Their story is a moving reflection on legacy, mortality and the wisdom of our elders; a reminder that humanity and nature are inseparable. The Art of Adventure invites us to listen, to learn and to embrace life with curiosity, courage and heart. Ahead of the film’s theatrical premiere the team has also announced the addition of David J. Cornfield (Sugarcane), Linda A. Cornfield (Won’t You Be My Neighbor) and Joan Corson to the team, they join Anne Innis Dagg and Mary Dagg as executive producers.
The film was recently announced as the closing night film Hot Docs’ Doc Soup on April 8, 2026 and will screen at the Sonoma International Film Festival in the documentary competition. The Art of Adventure features Robert Bateman, Bristol Foster, David Suzuki, Guujaaw, Wade Davis and many more. TAOA is directed by Alison Reid (The Woman Who Loves Giraffes), cinematography by Dale Hildebrand (Where the Cottonwoods Grow), edited by Dave Kazala (To Kill a Tiger), composed by Tom Third (Modern Whore) and line produced by Nina Beveridge (Black Community Mixtapes).
The documentary feature was filmed in Victoria, Salt Spring Island, Haida Gwaii, BC, Toronto, Ontario, and LePeche, Quebec. The Art of Adventure took home the Audience Favourite Feature Award at the Victoria Film Festival, won the Audience Choice Award for Best Canadian Documentary at the Available Light Film Festival, Best Feature – Mountain Culture Award at the Whistler Film Festival, Best Feature at the Reel Canadian Film Festival and Best Documentary at Forest City Film Festival.
