Remember when only US Military service members had to wear masks, and mostly for wartime? Better safe than sorry on that front, but it wasn’t the Home Front in WWII. That said, RECON is an unusual take on The Second World War, and available on VOD for Veterans Day 11/11. Based on true events, RECON is the story of four soldiers stationed in Italy in the midst of war. During one 24-hour nightmare, they come to question their own role in life and the conflict. The catalyst is an encounter with an Italian outlier who is forced to guide them out of a snow-swept mountain range. Or will he?
In the struggle to make it out of the snowpack alive, this quartet of American military men face dire circumstances that ultimately bring them each inner peace on their own unique terms.
If that sounds like a cryptic plot sum, it’s just in the attempt to avoid spoiler alerts. Air Force veteran Richard Bausch wrote the novel on which this film is based; it was awarded the 2010 Dayton International Literary Peace Prize. (“Peace” was re-published by Penguin Random House last month.)
See For Yourself What Goes on in RECON
RECON stars Alexander Ludwig (BAD BOYS FOR LIFE, THE HUNGER GAMES, “Vikings”) Sam Keeley (BURNT, “68 Whiskey”), Chris Brochu (DYNASTY, “Shameless”) and Italian acting legend Franco Nero (DJANGO UNCHAINED, JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2). The film is produced by Rick Dugdale and Richard Bullock and executive produced by Maury Povich (Povich’s new talk show is now airing on Fox).
Written and directed by Academy Award-winner, Robert Port (TWIN TOWERS), and adapted from the critically acclaimed New York Times best-seller “Peace,” VOD isn’t the only way to view the film.
This World War II thriller with a twist will stream on Apple TV, Prime Video and FandangoNOW, beginning on Weds., Nov. 11 (Veterans Day).
RECON is also in special screenings for Veterans Day.
