NO VACANCY is Sean Young teamed up with Dean Cain for a higher cause

Talking to Sean Young is always an adventure, mostly because she is a great storyteller and writer in her own right, and today is no exception as we chat for a hot-take on her new movie NO VACANCY with Dean Cain (“Superman”). “I just got in from Costco, putting away boxes,” she says, with one of her two sons helping. “I was down in Florida shooting this, it was great.”

Directed by Kyle Saylors, the movie “is about a hotel for homeless people, that helps people,” Young says. “I played the reporter who wrote stories about it, made it happen, sort of.”

While Young is best known for “Blade Runner,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and “Pet Detective,” she has been steadily working all along, even currently finishing up a memoir about her life in Hollywood. But today is about NO VACANCY, and Dean Cain, with whom she hit it off in the tropical setting for this film.

Based on a true story, their movie is about the media making a difference in a good way for once. In the film version, Brandi Michaels (Sean Young) finds a connection with a recovering addict as she puts together a story on a real estate purchase made by a non-profit organization, a local church.

Cain plays Cliff Lea, “he’s a pastor,” Sean explains. “I kind of get demoted, because the paper is downsized, and I get put in this small town. I start out as kind of this bitchy character, until I have a conversion. I see the light (laughs). So I decide to help him.”

“The costume lady did a really good job with my costumes.” Former pro athlete T.C Stallings is also top billed in NO VACANCY, “and Wade Hunt Williams is one of those character actors that just does a great job.”

“When you’re the leading lady, or the leading guy, a lot of times you are the hanger that everyone puts their coat on – I mean they act around you. Hang their performances on you almost. This was not like that. I have a couple scenes with Wade, he plays my brother Tony, where I drag him off to rehab. I really like him.”

As for her view on Superman?

“Dean Cain is very handsome. He is half Japanese, and he never met his Japanese father. I didn’t know that, but it gives him that interesting sort of gorgeous look. He’s gorgeous; he really is. He’s got that kind of real handsome thing going on.”

“It was a movie company of really nice people. The producer is a pastor, and behind his back I got this card for him, and I had every single person who worked on (the movie) sign it.” NO VACANCY, written by Art Aryis and produced by Kingstone Studios, will be available in the coming months. “ They’re in the process of releasing.” Sean adds, finishing up her grocery list at home.
