Here’s Greg Laemmle, of Carl Laemmle (founder of Universal Pictures) family’s line, with his latest letter to all at home during the Coronavirus (COVID19) stay-home era.
The next generation Laemmle mentions one film in his note to rent from Laemmle Virtual Cinema that is relevant to Passover, coming on the evening of April 8 through the evening of April 16. It’s about matzo-makers Streits, a Lower East Side, NY-based company that has hand-made the thin, perfectly-sourced, crisp, perforated unleavened favorite since 1925.
STREITS: MATZO and THE AMERICAN DREAM is a documentary from Michael Levine that brings the art of flat-bread making to life in all its historic glory. From the factory floor to the boxed and labeled product distributed worldwide.

For Pesach (Passover) online, they got you covered… here. Karl Laëmmle, as the Cinema pioneer was originally known, made somewhere around 400 films. His name means “Little Lamb,” hence the fuzzy signature mascot in the current Laemmle Theatres logo. Back in his day, “movie palaces” sprung up all over the country, mirroring the elaborate picture houses that dotted the boulevards of Hollywood. Nowadays we have to enjoy the experience virtually, and make our own home-made movie palaces…
Good Pesach.
