#RespectMovie is just a hashtag for now, but in 2020 Jennifer Hudson will shake the rafters with her multi-octave homage to the late great singer Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul who died at age 76 in August of 2018.
The Dreamgirl will follow the rise of Aretha’s beginnings as a child-singer in her father’s church choir to blazing fame as an indelible icon and cultural force the world over. RESPECT is the aptly titled biopic based on the true story of Franklin’s self-taught path to find her soul in music.
Written by Tracey Scott Wilson, the cast includes Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and the gut-punching presence of Mary J. Blige.
Here’s a sure-fire hit with Hudson on blast as The Queen of Soul
