This year the International Press Academy’s Honorary Satellite statuette will be presented to Award-winning actress Jenifer Lewis, as the global press association reschedules the date for the 26th Annual Satellite™ Awards for April 2, 2022. with a venue to be announced shortly. “Despite this difficult time of confinement throughout the world,” the IPA said in a statement, “we believe we have come up with a comprehensive and representative list of nominees and deserving winners and look forward to presenting them in-person.”
Among other star turns, Jenifer Lewis is known for ABC’s EMMY-nominated comedy black-ish, where for eight seasons she played wry grandmother Ruby Johnson. Lewis also won fans over as Tina Turner’s mother in biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It. The triple-threat actress is reported to have appeared in 300 episodic television shows, 68 films, 40 animated works, and four Broadway shows.
A quick survey of her selected credits include: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Friends, A Different World, Twenties, Castaway, Think Like a Man, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion, Strong Medicine, The Princess and the Frog, Mickey Mouse Funhouse, Rugrats, Pixar’s Cars franchise, American Dad, and Jon Waters’ Hairspray.

On stage Lewis has performed on tour in concerts worldwide, including sold-out shows at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Not just an entertainer, the Missouri native is a community activist and author, with an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, Webster University. Among many accolades, Jenifer Lewis has been recognized with a Career Achievement Award from The American Black Film Festival. Lewis’ autobiography, “The Mother of Black Hollywood” has charted as a national best-seller. This year, her star is on the rise again with a new TV series, “I Love That for You” on Showtime. She will join the legendary ranks of Show Business with a star ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame set for Summer 2022.

The International Press Academy selects Satellite™ Awards nominees from domestic and international submissions for 35 categories: 22 Motion Picture and 13 Television. Nominations are derived from advance screenings at film festivals worldwide (i.e. BAFTA, Cannes, Sundance, Telluride, TIFF), as well as consideration screeners sent to individual journalists and/or sanctioned links as available by the deadline. Jenifer Lewis joins the previous Honorary Satellite recipients including Carl Reiner, Bruce Davidson, Murray Weissman among the others. The IPA, a global press association, was the first to announce its nominations on Dec, 1, 2021, and the press academy will also close Award Season with a live in-person ceremony on April 2, 2022 with a venue to be announced shortly.
