LOS ANGELES, CA: Jason Moring, DDI CEO, announced today that BAFTA nominated actor Aneurin Barnard has been cast opposite award-winning actor Alex Pettyfer (I AM NUMBER FOUR, MAGIC MIKE) in HUNTERS IN THE DARK, joining Hong-Kong American actor Tzi Ma (MULAN, Ellen Wong (Netflix’s Glow) and Elodie Yung (Netflix’s Daredevil and The Defenders).

“We’re excited to have Aneurin join this amazing cast. His passion for the project will only heighten the collaborative spirit and enthusiasm that Simon Evans is bringing to the screen,” said Moring of DDI.

Aneurin Barnard had three films premiere at Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) in 2019: Iannucci’s The Personal History of David Copperfield playing opposite Dev Patel, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw and Hugh Laurie; The Goldfinch for Warner Brothers and Radioactive directed by Oscar nominee Marjanne Satrapi starring opposite Rosamund Pike.

He also played one of the leads in Christopher Nolan’s hugely successful award-winner Dunkirk (2017). Barnard has played multiple leading roles for British television including BBC’s War & Peace, ITV’s BAFTA winning Cilla, the BBC drama We’ll Take Manhattan opposite Helen McCrory and he can currently be seen in the Fox 21/Nat Geo drama Barkskins with David Thewlis and Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden.

DDI is currently selling worldwide rights of HUNTERS IN THE DARK at the 2020 Virtual Cannes Market, which is online-only for the first time in its storied history.

Veteran theater director Simon Evans will be making his feature filmmaking debut at the helm of HUNTERS IN THE DARK. Evans just directed a Zoom video series to rave reviews for BBC starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant during the Covid-19 quarantine. Legendary cinematographer Christopher Doyle (IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE) will be the film’s director of photography.

HUNTERS IN THE DARK tells the story of 28-year-old English school teacher Robert Grieve (Pettyfer), who unexpectedly wins a bag full of cash. Adrift in Cambodia and eager for a way out of his life of quiet desperation, he decides to take a journey deeper into the wilder aspects of the country, coming up against a scheming American, a crooked police officer and a darker side of Cambodia. This production is an adaptation of the 2015 psychological thriller of the same name by author Lawrence Osborne.

Hunters in the Dark is being produced by Axel Kuschevatzky (THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES) and Phin Glynn (WAITING FOR ANYA) of Infinity Hill. Co-producers are Cindy Teperman (ANIMAL), Alex Pettyfer and James Ireland of Dark Dreams Entertainment, while Jason Moring of DDI (DOORMAN, SUPER TROOPER 2) is set to executive produce in co-production with Nicholas Simon’s IndoChina Productions (EXTRACTION, SPIKE LEE’S DA 5 BLOODS).
