For a while now we’ve been thrilled to follow filmmaker Betsy Kalin and her remarkable camera’s eye. Kalin, who we found through the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) years ago when Carol Marshall and staffers set up these great indie filmmaker roundtables, previously filmed an East LA exploration, that you can find on her IMDb page, along with her other films. You can find her bio here.
For 2020, she widens the conversation to include the thorniest issues for Los Angeles and SoCal in VISION 2030. Housing, helping, harmonizing, were literally the three “H”s of peaceful change… until now.
For this documentary, Kalin has EMMY news but her project offers so much more as a microcosm. In VISION 2030, we can see changes coming for the rest of the US, because of the unrest maybe. Perhaps Kalin also provides innovative insights for the entire human inhabited world, through this LA microcosm.

“I’m so thrilled to announce that the documentary ‘Vision 2030’ which I produced, directed and wrote has been nominated for an Emmy! You can see the film at: https://bit.ly/3cIHdm5 and watch an interview with me here: https://bit.ly/3cPSYHz. The 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards will be presented July 18th at 7 p.m. on Emmys.com.”
Enjoy, despite the turmoil – because perspective is power.
Congrats Betsy!
